AJ bo-bo, bo-do-bo-do-bo. This is what we like to call you sometimes. Iddy sometimes says, "Abby Hon-ez!" Your hair is getting longer and just as curly as ever. Sometimes I pull it into a tiny little fountain of a ponytail, and sometimes two little tiny fountain pigtails. You still love to hold my hand, and that is what you "wrote" to me in my birthday card. You are so independent and feisty, but you love holding mama's hand. I eat that up! Last weekend we took Ruth-Michael to a ballet class for the first time. She was very anxious and stuck close to me the whole time. I could not get her to even go out with the others to do the stretches. It was just for 4 and up, so I didn't expect you to do anything, but you strode right on out there, and when I got up to come with you, you put your hand up to me and said, "no, no, no, no!" You wanted me to sit and watch you. Of course, later I talked RM into getting out there only if I went with her, and you didn't mind me sitting next to her. You like to talk A LOT and you always have stories to tell. You love to wear fancy dresses with sparkles and pink and flowers, but you just want to wear tennis shoes with them. You are in repeat mode... the Peppa Pig book, over, and over, and over, and over. Then it was "I'll love you forever", which, of course, I still have not made it through without crying. You'll say, "I want the book with the old sick woman!" You are so particular about your feet. I have to spend hours and hours (at least that's what it feels like) adjusting your shoes and socks until they feel just right or you have a break down. The tongue has to be pulled right and the socks without any wrinkles and the seam of the socks not rubbing your foot. I finally just bought you a pair of Crocs, and that has made our life much easier. You are so petite, but you are FAST. When you run, your little legs move so fast and you zip around to keep up with the big kids. You and Cooper are best friends. He is in class with you, and you love to go and play with him after school. If you had it your way, you would ride home with him and eat lunch with him and, basically, just be with him constantly. You love "neighbor tiger hood" but you always want the same episode over and over: the baby Margaret episode. You did an adorable performance at school for Mother's Day where you sang a song called "Hugs and Kisses." You stood next to Cooper and you hugged each other at the chorus and everyone oohed and ahed. It was pretty adorable. You are getting really good at puzzles. You have a Peppa Pig puzzle that is just 3 or 4 pieces for each character, and you can put them all together. There is a "Frozen" puzzle that is 100 pieces and you love for someone to put it together, then you take a few pieces of the outside off and then put them back together. Lately you like telling people "mama says, if you don't take your vitamin you don't get any vitamin, and if you don't chew your vitamin you will choke." You are a WHIZ at the memory game. Auntie Jen and I were playing with you, and we could not believe how you remembered where all the matches were. You did better than either of us! You have a spunky little attitude that is hard to control sometimes, but at the end of the day, you love your mama and papa and can't stand for us to be upset with you. After I spank you or get on to you really hard, I have to spend time cuddling with you and comforting you.

22 May 2018
Iddy, you are almost 16 now, and I can hardly believe it. You are growing in so many ways, both physically and spiritually. Your body is looking stronger and stronger, and your mind is searching, asking good questions and thinking deep thoughts. Just a few weeks ago, you initiated a trip for your class to go to a local orphanage to help paint some of the rooms, give out clothing, and play with the children. I was so proud of you for having the idea and following through with it to make it happen. You had to get up early on a Saturday morning, but you did it without complaining. You still ask me how you can help whenever I am taking care of the girls or cooking supper. I like for you to cook with me, and you are so good with the girls. Two nights ago you helped me shower them. They trust you and love you completely. I appreciate your help, but mostly, I just like to have you with us. You are fun to be around. You LOVE music, and always listen to music when you are washing the dishes after supper. You are such a good dancer and you dance a lot when you are feeling happy. It makes everyone around you, especially me, smile, and your happiness is contagious. You don't like for anyone to feel left out or get their feelings hurt. You are very sensitive to others being bullied, and you are a champion for anyone who is oppressed or the underdog. I'm still not sure what your thoughts are about God and Jesus and religion, but you always listen really well when we listen to a sermon online and you seem to think deeply about what was said. You and I still read together in the evenings, which is one of my favorite things to do. We just finished reading "Bruchko", which is a book about a man who becomes a missionary to the Indians in South America. Now we are reading the biography of Trevor Noah, a South African comedian that you really like. I feel like you like real-life stories about real people, even though they are sometimes very sad and very dark. I think you would rather learn about things that are true than to read fantasy or science-fiction type of books. During your last break from school, you and I drove to Mombasa together to see "Black Panther". You and Papa had already seen it, but I hadn't seen it yet. The movie was so good, and I just really enjoyed having that time with you. I know that I still am so much occupied with your little sisters all the time, and then when visitors come I am so occupied with them, and then I feel like I am not doing a good job of connecting with you. I hope you always know how much I adore you, and that I am so proud of you. Last night we were watching this silly little video that Mimimo and Bepops made for you of the skit "Who's on first?" It was funny, but you could have easily blown it off if you were "too cool". Instead, you recognized the effort that went into it, and the love that was behind it. You enjoyed it because you let yourself enjoy it and you let yourself be happy in the fact that you are loved and cherished. As a teenager, this is not easy to do, and I don't think I did it myself when I was your age. Iddy, you truly are a wonder!
