26 January 2018

My darling Abby Jones. You turned three while we were in America! I can't believe you are three. We had a party at Nae-Nae's house with pizza and pink cupcakes. I got Minnie Mouse decorations. Mimimo came up, and Cody and Olivia, and Cindy, Roger and Eli, and, of course, Deda was there. Amanda and Daisy and Grant came, too. Natalie and her kids also came over. Kemper, the little girl who is about your age, gave you a gift bag from some things she had just found in her room. A chocolate bar, one of her old books, a pair of her boots she had outgrown along with some socks, and a few other random things. Those used boots with the used socks were your favorite gifts! You wore them almost every day for the rest of our time in the States.  When I asked you what your favorite birthday gift was you said, "the boots from 'Kempa'." You also got a set of twin baby dolls, a baby bed, highchair, and stroller, a toy cell phone, a bunch of dress-up stuff, a Princess Amber doll, and some cute new Christmas jammies. I think you weren't sure what to think about the party. Ruth-Michael kept telling you about it excitedly, but you would just say you didn't want a party. Ruth-Michael said, "but you'll get lots of presents!" And you said, "yeah, I guess that will help." ha!

You are still so petite, but you are fast and can keep up with the big kids. You have bigger cousins on both sides of the family, and you do your best to never get left out. I don't know a good way to describe it, but you seem to always have a sparkle in your eye. You have this love for life and you drink it up every day. You were SO excited to come back to Malindi. Even at Mimimo's house (and you really love Mimimo's house) you would ask me everyday when we were going back to Malindi. Now that we are here, life is good for you. You settled right back in as if we had never left at all. Going back to school was a little bit of an adjustment, since you hadn't been used to leaving me at all for three months. But you got used to it very fast. You love your teachers, teacher Hellen and teacher Lorina. You LOVE to play with Nora downstairs, and you love her baby brother, JJ, too. You called him Andrew for a long time, I think because you were remembering your cousin Andrew.

You definitely have a very feisty spirit, but I know that you are tender and compassionate, too, because every once in a while you will say "sorry mama" about something that I'm not even thinking about. You just come up with that on your own. You get out of school everyday at 12, and the others stay until 2:50, so we have some special time together in the afternoon. We always eat lunch together, and then I read you books and sing you songs and you take a nap. Sometimes we nap together. Today I was laying beside you and you put your face right up to my face so they were touching. I gave you a kiss. Then you moved your lips right on top of mine and gave me a big kiss back. That melted my heart! You are an angel!
